The gift of bread

When we first moved I needed something, a way to serve and help others. Not knowing many people I didn't know what to do. A wonderful husband had a brilliant idea, to give bread. For the last couple of months every Sunday we have been making two loaves of bread. The whole family gets involved and helps measure, stir, knead or watch it cook and then we get in the car and take it to someone. All week long we think about who we want to take it to. We have visited neighbors, members of the church or kids in David's class. It is amazing some of the experiences we have had by giving a warm loaf of bread to people. Numerous times we have shown up on a doorstep when a family was sitting to eat and were wishing they had rolls or bread for their meal (many with guests over), we have brightened sad days, thanked teachers or friends, given people their first loaf of homemade bread (I didn't know that was possible!) but mostly shown love. It may help these few people, but it has done the most for our family and me. I always feel better after thinking of someone else, but so do the kids. They are instantly thinking of the next recipient, noticing who is sad or lonely. We have grown to love the people and this area so much quicker than we thought could be possible...all because of bread.
