Father/Son campout

While Aaron and David were away last weekend camping. Allison and I had fun and did a bit of shopping. One of the things we found was a pink cover up, which she promptly put on and wore over her clothes all day like it was a dress. She had to have the hood up and roast in the hot weather.
When Aaron and David returned, David had fallen asleep and was that way in the car for a few hours. They must have had a great time, or very little sleep.

Mother's Day

This is what I woke up to this morning....

I looked over and had to laugh and think "how can Aaron stand David's arm on his neck?"

It has been a wonderful day. I was treated like a queen, a yummy breakfast, lunch and dinner made. Time with family and more songs sung by David.

Outback Adventure

David came up with another great idea for his birthday this year. He wanted an Australia party with real ideas and games kids play in Australia. Lucky for him he has a great Aunt and Uncle who were full of ideas and experiences.

The invite was a sign with a Kangaroo and the info for the party on the back.

All the kids came and put on a hat with a button that had a koala and their name on it.

One of the games we played was "pass the parcel" where a box of candy is wrapped multiple times. As music plays each child passes the parcel until the music stops. When it stops the child unwraps one layer and does what is written on the paper. We had hopping kangaroos, nibbling wombats, a swimming platypus, climbing koalas, dingos and emus running wild.

A pin the tail on the kangaroo was another fun one. Along with a kangaroo cruise, boomerang toss, and a save the crocodile egg race. The pinata full of authentic Aussie treats was a hit!


Along with opening presents, which was a thrill for David.


We had some typical Aussie party treats: fairy bread (butter, nutella and sprinkles on bread) and mars slice (very yummy!)

David wanted chocolate cupcakes with yellow frosting and an Australia Flag. (I guess he is into cupcakes lately, or they are easier to lick the frosting off of.)

Mother's Day Tea

David's preschool has this incredible event close to Mother's Day. It so happened to land on his birthday, which made a pregnant mom more weepy and emotional that her child was growing up and moving on to kindergarten. For the Mother's Day Tea. You come with your child, have a cup of tea or apple juice, piece of cake, listen to some songs and receive an amazing gift. A book that the teacher's have put together of photos and work your child has done all year long. What an amazing thing to see how much David has learned and how much he has really grown up this last year. I caught a few of the songs they sang.

Dress Up

At play group this week the kids had loads of dress ups to play with. It took Allison awhile to want to put any one. She finally found one and spun around and danced through the room of course wanting her picture taken. Maybe we have a dancer on our hands.

A five year old!

I can't believe we have a five year old. The other day David rode his new scooter to the park and while I was pushing Allison on the swing I sat there being nostalgic and thinking over the last five years. Wow where does the time go.

Yea I am five!

Thanks grandma and woohoo for the scooter. I love it.

A new bike too. Thanks grandma and grandpa! (we have been outside from 6 am til bedtime the last three days!)

With his choice of going out for his birthday, he choose his favorite. Taco Bell, as long as he got a big sprite. Funny he ended up choosing root beer.

With another party a few days later, he wanted cupcakes and birthday cake flavored ice cream sandwiches for his birthday. Yummy after 3 cheese roll ups at Taco Bell.

David had a fun day at preschool too. He was able to celebrate and have Allison come help deliver a treat to his classmates!

Birthdays are the greatest!

We love cardboard boxes. One came the other day. David and Allison quickly grabbed it and got to work. After coloring, sitting, and reading they found they both could fit in and take a fake a nap.

Oh what joy

The biggest event of David's life, okay for the week, happened on Thursday...

the city dropped off our own recycling can. He has really gotten into recycling with Earth Month. It came at 8 am and he was down in the basement making trips outside of all the milk jugs, cereal boxes and cardboard we had been saving for our once a month trip to the big dumpsters in town. He filled it half way up and is working on getting it to the top before they come get it this week.

After checking out the picture of what can be put in the can, he now comes running when he hears something going in the garbage to make sure it doesn't go in if it can be recycled.

David and Aaron went to the library a few days ago and checked out some books. David was so excited to read them before bed. Allison wanted to be a part of it. I had to snap pictures because once she got in there she wasn't paying any attention, but smiling and making faces at me.

Then when I looked over their shoulders to see the book I understood. What girl wants to learn about the parts of ants?

peaceful

Aaron went out of town for a few days and things suddenly got really busy. We were on the go from morning til night. One day however a bit of a miracle happened. Allison crashed on the couch while David was at school. She hasn't had a nap for a few months. It was such a help in my busy day to have a short peaceful break.

Allison

Allison has such a personality of her own. The other day she had a little friend over and somehow convinced her to sit down and read books for 30 minutes. Allison would sit and tell her all about the book and her friend would just listen.

She also has discovered the camera and taking pictures. I left it low enough the other day and discovered some of her own shots. She is constantly making us smile.

I was getting ready to go out to a baby shower and had pulled out the bassinet that we were using as a present holder. Allison took the opportunity to make it the perfect reading spot. She quickly made herself comfortable and had a pile of books.

bright and early

The other morning, with the windows being open, the birds chirping woke up David and Allison. They were determined to be out riding their bikes. After quickly eating and getting dressed they were in the backyard ready to go. We had borrowed a bike attachment from some friends and David REALLY wanted to try it out. 7am Saturday we were out for a ride.

Allison was so excited she ran out without her shoes on.

She is becoming a little biker and loves to pedal around the driveway.

Superheros wearing goggles

David and Allison love wearing goggles, especially if they are not swimming. They find many uses for them. One of the favorite is for being a super hero.
David had to show me his new trick. He can wiggle his eyebrows, or so he thought.

Allison had to join in the tricks too.

sugar cookies

Aaron and the kids were making sugar cookies the other day. What fun they all had (besides the mess).

Easter

David and Allison were so excited for church and to wear new Easter clothes. They had tried them on earlier in the week and were ready for church faster than any other Sunday.

Easter Egg Hunt

We had a fun Saturday full of Easter Egg hunts. The kids went from one to the other all day and then ended the day at Chuck E Cheese visiting the family of one of my old roommates. We had so much fun. By the second egg hunt Allison had figured out that it was well worth it to pick up the eggs. She won a little stuffed bunny and got TONS of candy.

David had a fun time too. Running around and finding eggs with money in them.

magic tricks

We spent a few too many hours together maybe, or got creative during breaks in conference. David thought he would entertain us all with some of his wowing magic tricks. Then everyone had to join in.

what you do when you have the chicken pox

We took David to the doctor the other day and were told he had chicken pox. Poor guy only had about 7, but he was contagious all spring break. So instead of playing with friends, he would just talk to them through the fence. He came running in and asked me for some water so he could have an "experience" like the friends next door. I finally figured out he wanted to do an experiment.

These are some of the things he used.

sleeping

It has become a game at our house to see who can sleep the craziest, or maybe it is a game for us parents to see how crazy we can catch them sleeping.

The other morning David came running down stairs and said, "mom, grab the camera you got to see how Allison is sleeping today." Up we ran and this is what we caught. He hasn't been much better the last few week either. I guess it feels good to have one leg off the bed. They both had to try it.

David has always loved to sleep with his hands by his head or behind it.
